Zakynthos Island
ZAKYNTHOS (ZANTE) THE FLOWER OF THE EAST
Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is a true gem of the Ionian Sea. It is the southernmost and third largest island in terms of size and population, boasting a rich history, stunning natural beauty, and a vibrant culture. Located just 8.5 nautical miles south of Kefallonia, 9.5 nautical miles west of the Peloponnese, and approximately 300 kilometers west of Athens, Zakynthos is easily accessible and provides the perfect base to explore not only the island itself but also the neighboring islands and mainland Greece.
The island’s strategic location allows for easy access to other islands in the Ionian Sea as well as to the mainland of Greece. A short trip over the Peloponnese takes you to the ancient city of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Zakynthos’ proximity to the larger cities of Greece, such as Patras, Athens, and Thessaloniki, also makes it a great starting point for exploring the rest of the country.
Zakynthos is a land of contrasts, with a diverse landscape that includes dense forests, mountains, and fertile plains. In the north, east, and south, visitors can find some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, while the west coast boasts imposing cliffs and sea caves, including the famous Blue Caves located in the north-western part of the island.
The island’s climate is characterized as mild Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild winters. The winter months see heavy rainfall, while the summer months are filled with endless sunshine and clear blue skies. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun on a secluded beach or explore the island’s rich history and culture, Zakynthos has something for everyone.
